We Said Yes… Now We Need Housing Too

When we said yes to the call of missions in South Africa, we pictured adventure, ministry, and moments of seeing God move in ways that make your jaw drop. We didn’t picture the mountain of paperwork, the scavenger hunt for housing, or the “creative explanations” we’d have to give landlords about how missionaries actually afford rent.

But here we are.

It’s God’s humor on full display: we came to Cape Town to help provide sanctuaries for missionaries, and the first miracle we need is a roof over our own heads.

The Housing Hustle

The local rental market is competitive. Really competitive. And in a world where most tenants can easily show pay stubs and proof of income, explaining, “We’re volunteers who raise our support through donors and churches back home,” doesn’t exactly shoot us to the top of the list.

We’ve laughed more than once at the irony of spending our afternoons working to build a nonprofit that provides housing to missionaries… while spending our mornings stringing together short-term Airbnbs just to keep a roof over our heads.

It’s a humbling dance between faith and practicality all the while trusting that God’s the one who led us here. Then doing everything we can to find a landlord who will take a leap of faith with us.

The Bigger Picture

But underneath all the logistical chaos, there’s something beautiful happening. God is teaching us that provision isn’t just a line item, it’s a relationship. Every time we move into a temporary space, we meet another person, another story, another reason we’re here. Every delay, every “no” from an agent or owner has a thread of purpose woven through it.

It’s almost as if God’s saying, “You’re not just going to talk about Rally Point sanctuaries. You’re going to live the story first.”

Faith, Humor, and the Roof Over Our Heads

So, yes - we said yes to Jesus. And now we’re saying yes to all the unpredictable, inconvenient, laugh-so-you-don’t-cry moments that come with it.

Because if there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s that God’s sense of humor is as faithful as His provision. He invites us into the punchline long before we understand the setup.

And one day soon, when we walk into that perfect home, the one He had waiting for us all along, we’ll know the lesson wasn’t about real estate at all. It was about trust, laughter, and learning to live the message we’re called to share.
